Festive Make-up Look

More than anything else, December is a month of partying. Be it for a Christmas family gathering, a workplace holiday party or a New Year’s Bash with friends, it’s understandable that you will want to look your best for each of these occasions. We have a suggestion for you on how to achieve a nice festive look, using only a few products.

Start off by prepping your skin with a primer (we like to use Body Shop’s Tea Tree Pore Minimizer or Rimmel Stay Matte Primer). After letting it dry for a few seconds, continue by applying your favourite foundation (we opted for Rimmel’s Wake me up, for it’s dewy and natural feel) and make sure you blend it well. We are going for a natural look, so don’t worry if any redness pinks through. santa-make-upNext up, conceal only what you really feel is needed – mainly black circles or spots if you have them. Our preferred concealer is Naked by Urban Decay, but if you don’t want to invest a lot of money in this product, Bourjois Healthy Mix is also a great option. You can then set everything in place with a dash of your favourite powder.

Next up make sure to contour underneath your cheekbones, to make sure you don’t look like a two dimensional cartoon character. This step will give your face some nice definition. If you’re using a cream contour, it would be a good idea to finish it off with a bronzer, so that it has a chance to set on your face. Feel free to further dab it on anyplace you find suitable, but remember – don’t overdo it, you don’t want to look like your face spent the last few weeks sunbathing in Hawaii. For blush we chose Loreal’s Le Blush, but be careful not to put too much as you don’t want to end up looking like a russian matryoshka. A key point in this look to highlight your face on all the right spots. Put a little bit of highlighter (we love the balm’s Mary Loumanizer) on the very top of your cheekbones, inbetween your eyebrows and on your cupid’s bow.

For your eyes, first start off by putting your eyebrows in place. First, brush them upwards, so that gives them a little bit more volume, and then fill them in slightly with either an eyebrow pencil or a microbrow pencil. Generally, microbrown pencils are more precise and can be very affordable as well (we all know of Anastacia Beverly Hills’s Brow Wiz, but who knew that NYX’s microbrow pencil is a worthy runner-up?). After you’re done, brush them through carefully one more time, as we are going for a more subtle look and feel free to set them in place with some eyebrow gel (Benefit’s Gimmie Brow works wonders).

Coming up next – eyeshadow. We really like golden/brownish eyes for the festive season, so we recommend you put a golden base on your whole eyelids Put a little bit right beneath your eyes as well. After that go into your crease with a brown shade and blend everything together. Highlight your browbone for more definition. Curl your lashes and apply your favourite mascara (the Maybelline Lash Sensational is an amazing one). We didn’t go for any liner on this look, since we think it’s already.

To top everything up, apply a bold red lip (what says Christmas season more than a bright coloured mouth) but you might want to use a lip liner first, as bold colors are quite hard to nail from the first attempt. We really like Rimmel’s Kate Moss collection, and especially 107.

So that’s it – your holiday infused makeup look is ready!
