CIY – Cook it yourself

As a student, it sometimes might be hard to keep the variance in your meals. It’s easy to get into a weekly cycle of dishes, monday pasta, tuesday pizza, and so on. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, it might be a good and fun idea to ‘switch it up’ sometimes and try out some new recipes every now and then.

Grab your kitchen gear and put on your apron, because we chose two fun recipes for you to try out yourself!

Wholegrain wrap with chicken and veggies

Are you going on a trip and do you need to prepare a healthy meal that fills your stomach easily? Than this wholegrain wrap will be the perfect dish to prepare yourself! You can easily wrap these tasty tortillas into some foil and take them anywhere with you. It will take some time to prepare the whole dish, so take that into account.

What do you need?

200 – 300 gr. chicken breast

2 wholegrain tortilla wraps

1 cucumber

1-handful cherry tomatoes



1 tbsp. chicken spice

1 lemon

1 tsp. honey

1 tsp. rosemary


Mix the honey, rosemary, chicken spice, and the juice of 1 lemon in a plastic container. Cut up the chicken breast into small pieces, and add them to the container. Make sure the chicken is soaked into the mixture and leave it in it for about an hour. This marinade will make it super moist, spicy and delicious. As soon as it’s ready – put it in a pan and stir-fry it until it’s ready. Cut the veggies into small pieces and start making the wraps. Just simply put the chicken and veggies together, wrap it up, and you’re ready to go! The super juicy chicken will fill you up, and the greens and vegetables are going to add some healthy vitamins to your meal.



Oatmeal kruidnoten

If you’re an international student you might think “WTF!?”, but Kruidnoten are actually a very common snack during this specific time a year. In December, the infamous St. Nicholas will visit our country again to praise the children who’ve been good this year. And what a better way to treat yourself on some delicious Kruidnoten?

So, what do you need?

150 gr. oatmeal

25 gr. speltflour

3 tbsp. Speculaas kruiden (speculaas herbs)

2 tsp. cinnamon

2 tbsp. datesyrup (honey will also work)

50 g melted coconut oil

1 tsp. baking powder

a pinch of salt


Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees. Mix all of the ingredients in a big bowl and stir them well. Make sure that you reach a homogenous mixture. Create small balls from the dough and put them on a baking tray covered with baking paper. Bake them for around 15 minutes.

This recipe is a perfect way to incorporate this famous Dutch dessert into your healthy eating routine. The oatmeal kruidnoten are a great addition to your breakfast and a perfect way to start your day with a tasty treat. Enjoy!
